A Narrative Study of University Students’ Experience of “Reverse Kaoyan”: Interpretations from the Perspective of Modern Identity Theory

Abstract:

Using Charles Taylor’s Modern Identity Theory as a framework,this study conducted in-depth interviews with university students who chose Reverse Kaoyan, which is helpful to “deeply describe” the ethical crisis that the Reverse Kaoyan group may encounter,and explore the strategic adjustment and choice of college students’self-identity under the trend of “involution”. “Different routes lead to the same goal” of two types of Kaoyan students with different growth experiences in Reverse Kaoyan groups,the triple dilemmas of professional identity,cultural identity, and group identity in the ivory tower,and the rediscovery of personal dignity after the eclipse of the halo of prestigious schools,together depict the ethical experience of this group in a series of complex educational scenarios.
