Analysis on the School Objects From the Perspective of Educational Culture Studies

Abstract:

In recent one hundred years,there have been two basic paths in culture studies. One is the critical approach on industry cultures as the representative of Frankfurt School,the other is all kinds of sub-culture researches as the representatives of Chicago School and Birmingham School. After the 1970s, cultural studies have formed a way of focusing on object systems in terms of Jean Baudrillard’s and Arjun Appadurai’s theories. Neomaterialism offers the methodological supports for the trend,and it also has deep enlightenments for cultural studies of school things. Totally,school objects might be divided into four types such as architecture type,teaching type,institution type,and everyday life type. The school object system is relational and spatial, which are combined into a certain sequence, orientation and critical point, and form a specific physical relationship and the sociology of the arrangement of objects. Therefore, through the object system, the formation mechanism of school culture could be examined and the pedagogical significance of the “human-object” interaction could be clearly investigated.
