The Empirical Turn in Philosophy of Education:Take a Study on Dewey as an Example

Abstract:

It is a trend that the research of education turns to empirical approach in China’s educational system. However, research of philosophy of education is still constrained by metaphysics and fails to come back to the empirical field. From the perspective of artificial intelligence technology methodology, this paper analyzes the characteristics of an empirical transformation of philosophy of education, and takes a study on Dewey’s philosophy of education as an example. In addition, natural language processing technology and cluster analysis method are used to disassemble, locate and reorganize his representative works titled Democracy and Education. As a result, many ways are figured out to study Dewey’s philosophy of education. Obviously, the empirical orientation of philosophy of education bears multiple inclusive paradigms and the significance of value community, but not to make philosophy of education an empirical science.
