Cultivating Growth Wisdom:Examining the Development of Philosophy for Children From the Perspective of Philosophical Practice

Abstract:

The Philosophy for Children Movement emerged within the broader context of the Philosophical Practice Movement,representing a trend in which philosophy extends into the field of children’s education. Among the various branches of this philosophical movement,Children’s Philosophy has developed into one of the more successful subfields. According to the concept of philosophical practice,children have the right to engage in philosophical thinking. Therefore,the core essence of philosophy for children is to restore this long-deprived right of thinking to children. There are many philosophy for children models at present,and the children’s philosophy model under the philosophy practice concept is the “philosophy with children” model. In the children’s philosophy activities under this model,adults and children engage in Socratic philosophical dialogues,jointly contemplating philosophical questions related to children’s existence,with the dialogue being a gentle Socratic approach. The co-thinking model is an egalitarian dialogue model distinct from the “teaching-learning” model,where children’s wisdom is nurtured and developed,while adults simultaneously receive “philosophical therapy”.
