Abstract:

Environment is the main factor to affect the job burnout in college English teachers, which is related to the teaching quality and the teachers’ development. This study tests 207 college English teachers in order to discuss the mechanism of environmental factors on college English teachers’ job burnout. The results indicate that environmental factors have no direct effect on teachers’ job burnout, but could influence teachers’ job burnout through three indirect paths: through the mediating role of job stress; through the mediating role of teaching efficacy; through the chain mediating role of both job stress and teaching efficacy. Therefore, a better social, working and living environment could help reduce the stress of college English teachers, and improve the teaching efficacy. These could prevent or reduce the phenomenon of teachers’ job burnout.
