Is Evaluation Reform the Key to Solving Education Problems?

Abstract:

The education evaluation system is experiencing serious “value paradox” and “identity crisis”. In contemporary China, due to the value judgment attribute of educational evaluation and the social attributes of high interest, the role of educational evaluation baton has intensified, triggering the vicious competition of “social Darwinism” and various educational problems. Although the “baton” effect of educational evaluation has caused many educational problems, the root cause of the education problem is the improper use of the “baton” of education evaluation and the social factors. Therefore, the issue of education is not all the fault of evaluation. Evaluation reform is only one of the keys to solve China’s education problems. To completely solve the education problem, to realize the “promotion of improve by evaluation” in the true sense, we need to change the evaluation system, supervise the improvement after evaluation, and guarantee the implementation of education reform in many aspects such as concept, system, culture and resources.
