Optimization and Reform of Independent Enrollment System in Colleges and Universities From the Perspective of Education Equity

Abstract:

Equity is the value pursuit of the law, and education equity is the basis of social equity. Due to its particular selection criteria and enrollment methods, and an outcome of the policy that higher education resources have lean towards urban and upper-middle income families, the independent enrollment system of colleges and universities has attracted lots of social attention. This paper discovers that compared with national unified enrollment system, the students of independent enrollment system shows better family conditions and academic performance, but the independent enrollment system indeed select a group of students who show more outstanding academic performance, so there exists a conflict and tension between the equal right to education and the difference of receiving education. Under such circumstances, the college enrollment system should also be constantly optimized and reformed in a view of education equity.
