“Struggle for Recognition”: Dispelling “Contempt” in the Educational Field

Abstract:

The understanding of “contempt” is a very original thought in Honneth’s theory of criticism, which not only provides a new moral perspective for understanding the conflicts of education, but also provides a cognitive framework for interpreting moral formation.The basic implication of “contempt” includes the explanation of the meaning, form and result of “contempt”. Examining the current educational field through the perspective of “contempt” in Honneth’s theory of criticism, we will find that the objects of education have contempt experiences in body and mind, rights, values and so on.It is easy to create educational contradictions and conflicts that can not be mediated and resolved. It is necessary to dispel the “contempt” of education by means of distinguishing the educational contempt for truth and falsehood, establishing the concept of recognition for justice, building a community of educational recognition,carrying out early warning measures and so on.
