Abstract:

As the core concept of patriotism education, patriotism in the new era has three essential characteristics: the value mission of integrating love for the family and the nation with concern for humanity, the ethical attribute of mutual reinforcement between rule-of-law standards and moral norms, and the practical quality of progressing from patriotic emotion to actions that serve the country. Understanding these characteristics constitutes an important prerequisite foundation for carrying out patriotism education in the new era. Accordingly, patriotism education in the new era should aim to consolidate a value consensus of national loyalty, strengthen the ethical foundation of national identity, and cultivate the practical quality of unity between knowledge and action. In practice, patriotism education needs to move beyond knowledge-based, classroom-centered, and formalized approaches. It should construct the value stance of patriotism through collective memory, cultivate ethical consciousness of patriotism through the integration of classroom learning and everyday ideological and political education, and promote the formation of individuals' practical capacity for patriotism through education and self-construction.
