A Theoretical Interpretation of the Master-Disciple Relationship in Academia

Abstract:

The master-disciple relationship is different from the teacher-student relationship or advisor-advisee relationship;it is an educational and social relationship characterized by its own distinctive order and paradigmatic features. Focusing on postgraduate education and starting from the connotation of the master-disciple relationship,this study defines and analyzes its basic concepts and characteristics,and further explores its internal mechanisms. Specifically,academic development is identified as the fundamental aim of the master-disciple relationship;emotional and ethical bonds serve as its sustaining ties;and the coupling and sharing of resources constitute its developmental preconditions. This analysis aims to advance theoretical research on teacher-student relationships and contribute to the cultivation of postgraduate talent and the flourishing of academic scholarship.
