Abstract:

Textbooks serve as the fundamental basis for teaching and the starting point for students to fully engage in school life;they also play a scaffolding role in both instructional reform and teacher development. Textbook use is a process of establishing connections between students’ personal experiences and social life experiences,in which action plays a highly active and dynamic role. Creating instructional situations is an internal mechanism of textbook use. Seizing the moment, responding to situations with contextual awareness, and providing personalized interpretations of the textbook constitute key opportunities and essential strategies for enhancing the quality of textbook use. In order to expand the space for textbook use and enhance their ability to use textbooks effectively, teachers need to accurately grasp the functions and roles of textbooks, clarify the knowledge logic embedded in them, uphold the educational nature of teaching, scientifically plan learning pathways, actively design learning activities, and enrich the approaches and methods of textbook use.
