A Study on the Occurrence Mechanism and Governance Path of Weak Schools

Abstract:

The development of weak schools is a key link in building China’s high-quality education system and achieving the modernization of Chinese education. This study adopts Giddens “Structural Theory” as the research perspective and focuses on 30 teachers and administrators from XX Primary School as the research subjects. Using in-depth interviews and participatory observation for data collection,and employing Nvivo 14.0 for coding analysis,a structural model of the occurrence mechanism of weak schools was constructed,which includes the constraints of structure,the enabling nature of structure, and routinized actions. Based on this,precise governance paths for the development of weak schools are proposed: improving supporting policies to mitigate the constraints of structure; enhancing governance systems to activate the enabling nature of structure;and building school communities to break through routinized actions.
