Abstract:

Moral self is the pursuit of values within the individual’s spiritual world, and it is constructed through the journey from the actual self towards the ideal self. Role model education uses its inherent logic of the “other” to provide a new pathway for the construction of the ideal moral self: the starting point of role model education lies in understanding the “other” and directing the self towards a clear goal; the essence of role model education is to become the “other” and provide methods for self-development; ultimately, through achieving self-realization and sublimation, the construction of the ideal moral self is completed. However, there are problems in current role model education such as the sanctification of role models’ images, the entertainment of role models’ recognition, and the simplification of role models’ learning, which results in limited moral consensus, blocked moral emotional resonance, and limited moral practice resonance, which obstruct the construction of the moral self. It is necessary to explore the effective practical path of role model education for the construction of the moral self. Rationally choose to set up role models to stimulate the conscious development of moral cognitive abilities, associate with idols and role models to cultivate moral emotional abilities full of responsibility and responsibility, and ultimately practice role model education effectively to achieve self-examination of ideal morality.
