Abstract:

Based on 24 123 “College Entrance Examination Reform Questionnaires” collected by the project team, this study analyzes undergraduates’ evaluation of the benefits of the college entrance examination under the new reform. The results show that undergraduates generally acknowledge that the college entrance examination promotes overall personal development, although recognition varies across different groups. While most agree that the college entrance examination enhances various abilities, the degree of improvement differs; there is also a consensus that the college entrance examination provides a positive experience, though family income affects investment in the college entrance examination, and it is widely recognized that the college entrance examination influences high school education. In response, the study suggests that the new college entrance examination reform should strengthen its role in fostering the comprehensive development of the Five Educations, enhance ability development in other areas, address implicit unfairness caused by family investment differences, and acknowledge the significant guiding role of the college entrance examination. Education authorities should use the college entrance examination to promote students’ all-round growth in morality, intelligence, physical health, aesthetics, and labor. The reform must uphold the fairness of the college entrance examination system, and families and universities should support undergraduates in transitioning into university life and planning their academic journey.
